IRWD—PayYourWaterBillOnline
A handcrafted stop motion explainer with Forge for Irvine Ranch Water District — a utility task people want to watch.
The brief
Public service communication usually defaults to flat, functional, and forgotten. IRWD wanted to drive customers to the online bill pay experience, but the existing materials were not earning the click. The brief was to make a utility task feel inviting.
Our approach
Partnering with Forge, we helped design a stop motion piece that uses a handmade, collage inspired aesthetic to walk customers through the process. Forge led the campaign concept and audience tone. Truecraft handled the design, animation, and motion craft, leaning into texture, warmth, and a little playfulness without ever losing the clarity the message demanded.
Handmadeonpurpose
The collage and stop motion treatment was a deliberate move away from the visual norms of utility communication. It signals warmth, attention, and care, which are not words customers usually associate with paying a bill.
Whyitmattered
Self serve adoption is a long game. Together with Forge, we gave IRWD a piece that earns watch time, lifts the brand, and quietly does the work of moving customers off the phone and onto the site.
